Master Weaver

Guimarães, Northern Portugal

Maria represents the fourth generation of weavers in her family, working with the same loom her grandmother used. Her knowledge of traditional Portuguese textile patterns is unparalleled, with techniques passed down through generations.

She specializes in linen weaving, creating intricate patterns that reference historical Portuguese textiles while incorporating contemporary elements. Each piece takes several days to complete, with meticulous attention to every thread.

Each piece begins with locally-sourced clay, which João shapes by hand before firing, glazing, and sometimes hand-painting. His distinctive style draws inspiration from Portugal's azulejo tradition while introducing modern elements.

Ana comes from a family with deep connections to Portugal's cork industry. She has developed innovative techniques for transforming this sustainable material into versatile products that showcase its remarkable properties.

She works with cork harvested from oak trees in southern Portugal, where the bark is carefully removed every nine years without harming the trees. Ana's designs highlight cork's natural beauty while pushing the boundaries of what's possible with this traditional material.
