Our Commitment to Sustainability

Creating objects with purpose while respecting our planet and communities.

Responsibility in Every Choice

At Atlantica, sustainability isn't just a feature of our products—it's the foundation of everything we do. We believe that beautiful design and responsible practices must go hand in hand to create objects that are meaningful, ethical, and built to last.

From the materials we source to the people we work with and the processes we employ, every decision is guided by our commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. This is our ongoing journey toward a more sustainable future, where Portuguese craftsmanship and contemporary life exist in harmony with nature.

Our Sustainability Pillars

🌱

Materials

We prioritize natural, renewable, and locally-sourced materials that minimize environmental impact while maximizing quality and longevity.

🤝

Community

We support local artisans and communities through fair partnerships, preserving cultural heritage while fostering economic resilience.

♻️

Circularity

We design with the entire lifecycle in mind, creating products that can be repaired, reused, and eventually returned to the earth.

Sustainable Portuguese materials

Conscious Materials

We carefully select materials that balance beauty, functionality, and environmental responsibility. By working primarily with renewable resources and traditional Portuguese materials, we create products with character and minimal ecological footprint.

🌿

Organic Linen

Our linens are made from flax grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The plants require minimal irrigation and contribute to soil health through crop rotation practices.

🌳

Cork

Portugal's cork oak forests are among the world's most sustainable ecosystems. Harvesting cork doesn't harm the trees, which continue to absorb CO₂ throughout their 200+ year lifespan, supporting biodiversity.

🧶

Natural Dyes

We use plant-based and mineral dyes derived from traditional Portuguese sources, avoiding synthetic chemicals and reducing water pollution while creating rich, nuanced colors.

Sustainable production at Atlantica

Ethical Production

Our production methods honor traditional craftsmanship while incorporating sustainable innovations. By keeping our supply chain local and transparent, we minimize our carbon footprint while supporting the Portuguese artisanal economy.

01

Small-Batch Production

We produce in limited quantities to avoid waste, ensure quality, and maintain the value of each piece.

02

Solar-Powered Workshops

Many of our partner workshops are powered by Portugal's abundant sunshine through solar energy systems.

03

Water Conservation

We implement water recycling systems and low-water techniques throughout our production processes.

04

Zero-Waste Design

Our patterns and production methods minimize material waste, and scraps are repurposed into smaller products.

Circular by Design

We embrace circular economy principles to minimize waste and maximize value throughout the lifecycle of our products. By designing for durability, repairability, and eventual biodegradability, we're working toward a future where nothing goes to waste.

1Design for Longevity

We create timeless designs with durable materials that age beautifully rather than wearing out, extending their useful life.

2Repair & Renew

Many of our products can be repaired or refreshed rather than replaced, with care guides and repair services available to customers.

3Take-Back Program

When an Atlantica product reaches the end of its life with you, we'll take it back to be repurposed, recycled, or properly biodegraded.

4Regenerative Materials

We prioritize materials that replenish natural systems rather than depleting them, like cork and certified organic fibers.
